Here’s a development
that may even make Grumpy Cat smile. Weather Kitty has hit the iPhone store!
The most famous cat in the world – with over 1 million Facebook fans – stars in a special themed weather app for $1.99. But if you’d rather have your own cat bring you your weather news, you can do that too. And like the popular Weather Puppy, created by a Miami startup, the free app comes with many cute and cuddly cat images that are customized to the time of day and weather conditions. Free themes include Outdoorsy Kitty and Summer Fun; there’s also a Yoga Cats version for $1.99.
And there is more news from Shiv Takhar and Suraj Hemnani, the team that brought you Weather Puppy. The team has recently added more than 400 more images to Weather Puppy, so there are now more than 500 in the app. They have also added hourly weather forecasts and an additional two days of future forecasts (now 5 days). The images in the app are now Retina & iPhone 5 optimized. Weather Puppy alone has been downloaded more than 200,000 times and has hit the #1 spot for free weather apps in 19 countries, including Spain, Mexico, United Kingdom, France and Germany.
Weather Puppy also has two fund-raising themes in the app - Dogs Trust (the largest dog charity in the UK) and Detroit Dog Rescue. “Detroit has the highest number of homeless dogs in the country - some estimates are as high as 50,000. We are on pace to raise about $10k for the charity in our first 12 months of having the fund-raising themes,” Hemnani said.
But everyone knows the Internet loves cats, and Weather Kitty came out of the gate very strong earlier this week, already hitting the No. 2 showing to iPhone weather apps. Securing a partnership with Grumpy Cat’s people took a while, but will be well worth it, Hemnani said. The themes will be continually updated and more images will be added to both the free and $1.99 offerings. Like Weather Puppy, the app is designed to be fun and make you smile.
Now that they’ve satisfied the dog and cat people, what’s next? “You’ll have to stay tuned!” Hemnani said.
