Calling all makers and ham radio enthusiasts – the Hamboree Mini-Maker Faire is planned for Saturday, Feb. 1. There is also a Hamfest on Friday, Jan. 31.
A Maker Faire is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and innovation, an event where people show what they are making and share what they are learning. “Makers are crafters, tech enthusiasts, garage tinkerers, scientists and homesteaders. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The goal of this event is to entertain, inform, connect and grow our local Makers community”, said Roberto Cruz, the 2014 Hamboree Mini-Maker Faire chairman.
The Saturday Mini-Maker Faire, which will be combined with a Hamfest for ham radio enthusiasts, features speakers, workshops and exhibits on topics such as: robotics, 3D printing, home fabrication, green technologies, textile arts, electronics, do-it yourself projects, Amateur Radio communications and related activities as well as a chance buy and sell gadgets, radio gear, computer parts and software. There is also a Hamfest only on Friday.
There will be amateur radio and emergency communications stations setup on the grounds. Come and share your projects or just to look, learn, ask questions, and even get on the microphone with the help of one of our licensed operators. For individuals wishing to receive their FCC Amateur Radio license, exams will be offered onsite Saturday at 8 am.
