SCORE Miami Dade will present two important business workshops on the critical topics of Patent Protection and Protecting Your Trademarks. A business does not have to be online, or even have a website, for an owner to be concerned about digital IP issues. These workshops are for anyone who wants to understand the intellectual property risks in an increasingly digital business environment and how to handle the risks.
“Protecting intellectual property has always been important for the small and start-up businesses. Your reputation and innovation can be what gives you a vital competitive advantage,” says Marjorie Weber, Chair of Score Miami-Dade. “Now, in the digital realm of the Internet, things happen very quickly, and intellectual property protection is more important than ever.”
In Patent Protection for Your Invention, to be held on November 5th, 6-8 p.m., teaches how to patent inventions and innovations, including what is patentable, what type of patent application to pursue, when to file it, and what to include in a patent application. This workshop will be led by Jerry R. Haynes, patent attorney and Principal Attorney at Law Office of Jerry D. Haynes, P.A.
On November 14, 6-8 p.m., Craig Morris, Managing Attorney for Trademark Outreach in the US Patent and Trademark Office, will lead a workshop on Protecting Your Trademarks. This session teaches how to choose a trademark, how to register it, and how to defend a trademark in case of dispute with another trademark owner.
Both workshops will be held at the Miami Innovation Center, 1951 NW 7th Ave., Miami, FL. Price is $30.00 in advance, $40.00 at the door. Register at http://miamidade.score.org or call 786-425-9119 for more information.
