Miami Beach social entrepreneur participating in U.S. Senate panel

A Miami Beach-based entrepreneur will be participating in the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging's joint hearing with the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship today to examine the growing trend of older Americans starting their own businesses.

Conchy6a00d83451b26169e2019b01573de4970c-800wi During the hearing that is expected to begin at 10 a.m., lawmakers will hear from a panel of senior entrepreneurship experts, including 68-year-old Conchy Bretos (pictured here), who owns the social entrepreneurial business MIA Senior Living Solutions in Miami Beach (see article about her here).  Panel members are expected to discuss, among other things, the advantages and barriers facing older entrepreneurs, initiatives aimed at bolstering such start-ups and their economic impact.

According to a recent study by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the highest rate of entrepreneurship in the U.S. has shifted to those in the 55-to-64 age group over the last decade.  In 2012, adults in that age group comprised some 23.4 percent of all U.S. entrepreneurs, the study found.
