Recoding history logo (1)South Florida's premier cultural and historical museum needs the community's help designing innovative digital solutions to document and present Miami's notable history. An affiliate of the prestigious Smithsonian Institution, HistoryMiami is opening its vault of historical photographs for this 24-hour hackathon, called “Night at the Museum: recoding History,” Nov. 8-9.

Bring your sleeping bag and ‘A game’ – more than $10,000 in cash prizes will be awarded!

History is about telling the stories of our past, and we want Miami’s story told through the collective creativity of the community, with a finished product accessible to all. Participants will have access to HistoryMiami’s collection of unique historical photographs, newspaper articles, and documents from public archives.

Since the past starts yesterday, we would also like to start collecting digital photographs of notable people, places, and events around the community. We invite the community to contribute their own images that capture the evolving story of our great region.

HistoryMiami would like assistance in creating an app-based digital solution that can address one of more of the following needs:

* Designing creative concepts that further HistoryMiami’s “Museum Without Walls” goal (i.e. educating our community about our vibrant past, even if they can’t physically visit the facility)

* Making the physical museum experience more interactive

* Organizing and meta-tagging both old (physical) and new (digital) photographs
