Citrix: a big company with a startup culture

March 19, 2012·Nancy Dahlberg

CITRIX0200_BUILDING_CTJWe normally write about startups and small business on this blog but incredible growth stories are worth highlighting, too -- particularly ones in on our own South Florida back yard.

Citrix Systems, the subject of a Business Monday cover story today, may now be a South Florida tech company with 7,000 employeers, but the company that launched in 1989 still tries to maintain a startup culture in its modern Fort Lauderdale headquarters with Silicon Valley-esque touches like open office areas, conversation lounges with "writeable walls", conference areas adorned with modern art, and places to relieve stress.

CITRIX0200_CUBISM_CTJWhile a workplace and corporate culture can help spur creativity and innovative thinking, it's the people that make a company. And inside the modern glass building -- as well as Citrix's research centers in Silicon Valley, India, England, China and many other places -- Citrix is all business, embracing and accellerating the mobile technology trend, completing six major acquisitions last year, adding 1,300 employees last year and posting record-high earnings.

Read the story about Citrix's corporate strategy here. And read a timeline of the company's ups and downs through its 22 year history here.

Do you work at a company with a startup culture? What works and what doesn't?

Below are some other photos provided by Citrix of their research centers around the world: Top row shows Santa Clara, Calif., office building; next photo shows the "pantry" in Hong Kong's Citrix facility, then a work "pod" in Cambridge, England, and at bottom is a collaborative work area in Singapore.
