Square co-founder moving to Miami, may start coding-education program here

Jim McKelvey, a co-founder of Square, is moving to from his hometown of St. Louis to Miami with his family and will be considering expanding his St. Louis-based tech-education and placement program LaunchCode to Miami as well as other cities such as Philadelphia, Denver and Baltimore, a a St. Lous Business Journal report said. LaunchCode pairs new coders with experienced pros in order to help shore up tech talent shortages.

He said if Miami shows a need for his program, he will. “There is a chronic programming talent shortage that is a problem around the world,” he told the Journal.

McKelvey said he was drawn to the area because of friends and family connections and its international airports.
