Who says September is a slow month in South Florida? Maybe for tourism but not for tech! A few news highlights:
At least two South Florida tech companies are at TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Alley this week in San Francisco. Ninut, a Miami-based startup that has developed the Paymesh digital cash app, will be exhibiting Tuesday. Read a Startropica interview here. Geopon, a mobile commerce solution for geo-targeted coupons and more, exhibited at Startup Alley Monday. Geopon, which won the Business Plan Challenge FIU Track this year, also had its soft launch last week.
Nova Point of Sale, a Miami Beach software company offering point of sale software for mall carts,
kiosks, and other retailers worldwid., made the Empact 100 list of companies. Through Empact, the Startup America Partnership, and a number of other partners, the Empact Showcase is a compilation of the top entrepreneurs in the US age 30 and under with revenues over $100,000.
This is the last week to apply to present at Florida International University's Americas Venture Capital Conference (AVCC). The deadline to apply is Sept 14. Find out more here.
The following is from Startup Digest Miami by Andrej Kostresevic: SFTA has a very interesting event coming up on 9/25, aiming to celebrate the anniversary of the first smartphone (apparently developed in SFL in the late 80s/early 90s), by bringing together high-visibility names including John Sculley, former Apple CEO, and Scott Moody, founder of AuthenTec, the Florida company Apple just
acquired for $367 Million. SFTA is also looking for 3 cool mobile startups to present at the event.
Also, according to last week's StartupDigest, this week also brings Bootstrap week, filled with free webinars on mobile app development.
