If you want to participate in a Startup Weekend in South Florida this fall, you've got choices. That’s because, in addition to coming to Boca Raton (see earlier post here), Startup Weekend is also coming to Miami Oct. 12-14.
University of Miami’s Launch Pad is hosting Startup Weekend’s return to Miami.
Startup Weekend put on 400 events in 100 countries in 2011, making it the largest organization of its type. At the events, entrepreneurs, developers, designers and marketers come together for weekend-long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams and launch companies. I'm told the current team behind OnSwipe first came together during a Miami Startup Weekend.
At a Startup Weekend, participans pitch their startup ideas and receive feedback from their peers. Teams form around the top ideas and then the teams spend the rest of the weekend creating a business model, coding, designing and validating, with the assistance of local mentors. The weekend culminates with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders -- feedback and awards are given.
Startup Weekend Miami, which begins at 6 p.m. Oct. 12 and runs through 9 p.m. Oct. 14, costs $99. Act fast to get an earlybird discount -- enter Earlybird in the promotion code. For more information or to register, go here.
I wonder how many other entrepreneurial communities have hosted two Startup Weekends at the same time? Based on the popularity of past events here, no doubt both Startup Weekends will be filling up fast.
